Washington 2016 Halibut Season

Last year Washington halibut anglers had an 11 day season. This year they will only receive eight days as follows.

Marine Areas 5-10 will be open to sport halibut fishing:
May 7th Saturday
May 12-14 Thursday, Friday Saturday
May 26-29 — Thursday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday

The big change this year is the overlapping season openers. This overlap was instituted to prevent anglers from over harvesting. WDFW claim anglers over harvested halibut last year which led to the loss of fishable days and separate openings this year.

Sekiu, which is Area 5 and Eastern Strait of Juan de Fuca, Area 6 (Port Angeles & Sequim), Area 7 (San Juan Islands) & 9 (Admiralty Inlet) will have identical seasons this year and should greatly reduce pressure at all boat launches.

Coastal Marine Areas 3 (LaPush) and Area 4 (Neah Bay) will open:
May 7th — Saturday
May 12 — Thursday
May 14th — Saturday

If enough quota remains, Areas 3 and 4 might reopen May 26 and or May 28th
